We have results! For the logo competition we’ve been blathering about for the last month or so.

Please admire. What follows is a list IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER of the logos we received. We would like you to admire them, comment on them, hold them, love them, and decide amongst yourselves. We will be pow-ow-ing over here and will most likely publish the results on Monday. If you would like to give us some input please email tracey@theavantguardian.org (she needs something to do) or leave your suggestions in the comments.

FYI My critical analysis is dumb.

1. Let’s start out with some suck. I warned that you mine would be a bit ridiculous. I find that purposefully crooked arrangements, while funny, often just look terrible and sloppy. Most of the things I do maintain a pretty solid “terrible and sloppy” image, so it’s really a lifestyle at this point. From the chicken flava.

2. Next a huge step up from reader Sam Petersson form Buckshots Inc. I see what you were going with here. That’s Avant. Looking smooth. My Thoughts are that this is the beginning of something great. Ecstasy? Do we need a Private Room?

3. From reader Aram Vartian. I really like this design though I don’t know which color I would pick it in. The anvil gives everything weight, right? Plus it makes me think of the Looney Tunes, which is always a plus. I’d like an anvil in my apartment. Glad that’s settled.

4. Back on track with futaishi’s logo. Not quite sure what he was going with here but I am almost positive that that is a vagina with a halo. We here at theavantguardian think all vaginas have halos. Hear that ladies? We are just that sensitive and appreciative of the things put on this world. Ladies.

5. Next up are a pair of sheep which I am quite fond of. I do like sheep. Not in a bestiality sort of way or anything. But sheep themselves seem like they would be fun to both hug AND tackle. Which is an important quality in an animal. Ok. You’re right. In a bestiality sort of way.

6. Here is the first submission from reader Phil Vann who has given us two pretty rad designs. The first is a bar code. Bar codes make me think of cereal box UPCs. You could always collect them as a little kid and send them in for prizes and stuff. My mom would never let me cut up the box because supposedly it would attract ants. What? Having a huge hole in the box? Who cares about ants when I can have a pair of plastic dinosaur binoculars? And then she would throw out the box without telling me. I never won any prizes as a kid what a rip. Thanks Mom.

7. Phil’s second design is modeled, I believe, on what the Facebook page looks like. Also. How can you NOT be a fan of us on Facebook? It’s pretty stupid that I even have to ask why you’re not a fan on Facebook yet. And if you are already, I apologize for heckling you to become a fan on Facebook. Anyway sweet on it avant heart.

8. Here is a submission from our newest member of the site ryland death. Ryland has seen and raised futaishi with what appears to be a dick tower. Now I know I was hard on(!) futaishi for his halo-ed vagina but, what the hell is this? I will, however, admit it appears to be one of the more architecturally advanced dick towers I’ve ever seen. Dick Tower HAS to be a porn star. We’ll have to run this by some sort of committee but is this a logo? Ryland?

So here we have the candidates. Again with any input please email tracey@theavantguardian.org Winners of the sweet sweet vodka announced Monday.

This is a sketch for the tower which will house our offices when we’re all rich and famous. The winning logo can go on a sign in front.

    Se7en! Well-done, Phil!

I like the heart tat logo, but… I have to express also my fascination with Buckshots Inc.’s contribution. Is that Kanye West? Can we represent ourselves entirely with images of Kanye? All Kanye, all the time? I’m cool with that.

  7. Phil Van on March 4, 2010 at 6:41 pm

If I weren’t all like “what’s not to love” about #6 and #7 (and why not, since they are my own pixel and blood) I would share some loving with #1. In fact, I will. #1 captures a casual, I’m-too-cool-to-care-about-this-so-why-do-you? quality. Of course, #6 has some of that good sh/t too, as well as a reflexive tautology that posits branding as itself a product, which makes this a kind of anti-logo logo. The heart tattoo is more a romantic heart-on-the-sleeve, bleeding-edge sense of avant garde with a modern attitude and irony thrown in. Looks great on stickers and teeshirts. I already have it inked on my chest, but don’t let that influence you.

It has to be either 6 or 7.

  9. Dan Zbichorski on March 5, 2010 at 2:33 pm

    Number (#) Seven (7)

  10. Aram Vartian on March 5, 2010 at 2:36 pm

It has to be #6. It is fitting for the site, easily marketable on a variety of products, and has the added benefit of being just plain awesome.

  11. chicken flava on March 5, 2010 at 2:59 pm

    keep ‘em coming.

FYI #2 is the R&B singer Avant. Making it hilarious on a lot of different levels.

And Phil I apologize I spelled your name wrong. Thanks for the love anyway.

    1st one all the way.

Oh, I just read the blurb- is it yours? No nepotism intended.
