One of the worst arguments I had with my ex-girlfriend was about the death of Spalding Gray, an experimental performance artist/storyteller who was famous for his long intricately woven stories and his involvement with The Wooster Group.  This is not the place for the details of the argument.  It is enough to know that it was about life and death.  This is not the place for the details of the death.  It is enough to know that it was about life and death.  For now, all you need to know is that everything is under control and we’re all in this together.  Ok, so long as we’re clear, you can watch the video.  It’s about 4 minutes and 22 seconds long.  Afterwards, we’ll meet up and discuss ways to prevent boredom.

If the video failed to move you in any way, if you sat there bored, waiting for someone to tell you what to do, if you found yourself looking at the time bar and wondering why it was going so slow, please consider doing the following.  Additionally, if you were moved at all, in any way, please consider doing the following:

  1. Find a moment of your past where something affected you.
  2. Write that moment down as a story.  Use repetition and a thesaurus.
  3. Distill the story into nine parts.  Draw out each part of the story as a picture.  You now have a storyboard.
  4. Take the piece of paper that you wrote your story on and set it on fire.
  5. Take your storyboard and tell your story from the storyboard until you no longer need to look at the pictures.
  6. Set your storyboard on fire.
  7. Put on a plaid shirt and roll up the sleeves.
  8. Tell your story into a video recording device.
  9. Upload the story onto youtube, and title it: All Cats Are Spalding Gray.  Add a link to your story in the comments section below.

I’m particularly keen on the “setting on fire,” but that’s because I’m a pyromaniac. It’s one reason why I don’t own a lot of things. Both Spalding Gray and The Wooster Group are new to me, so thanks.
